I don’t know about everyone else, but I suffer from weak hips. I work 40 hours a week sitting at a desk staring at a computer and my hips pay the price. After both of my half marathons it’s always been my hips that ache and hurt for a few days.

I’ve been working with a coach on speedwork and these are the exercises he has us doing, not only to strengthen our hips and core, but to also get faster, and who doesn’t want to shave a few minutes of their times? 🙂

His advice to us: do these 2-3 times a week when you go out for a run. They don’t take long to do (about 5 minutes total) and if you keep up with it, you will see a difference.

Happy trails WRC!

As a note I’m not a certified personal trainer. I’m just your average runner looking to get a little faster and a little stronger. AND you should always consult a physician before starting a new fitness routine.

I was a very active child growing up. I was busy doing sports 12 months of the year without much break in between. Soccer, swimming, softball, ballet, basketball. You name it, I’ve probably done it. Well, once I finished high school in 2005 I quit everything cold turkey. Fast forward to 2012, after I finish college, and one of my friends starts posting on Facebook about running, and being kind of ignorant, I figured I could jump right in and run, even though I hadn’t exercised or played a sport in about 7 years. Well, I signed up for my first 5k and by the end I felt like I was going to die.
